About In Planet

We are an impact-driven, remote-first Climate Tech (CDR) startup headquartered in Germany and Brazil to reverse climate change and make tropical agriculture more regenerative, low‑carbon, and sustainable. Our focus is Enhanced Rock Weathering in tropical agriculture, specifically in Brazil, to regenerate soils and ecosystems, grow nutritious food, and increase food security and sovereignty in the tropics.

People‑first, performance culture:
We blend focus on people and performance with a strong cultural vision. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and design practices to foster psychological safety, belonging, and authenticity.

About

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Geochemical Modeler to develop and refine our in‑house model to simulate the enhanced rock weathering (ERW) process from the soil to the ocean. The role involves modifying, incorporating, and improving existing reactive transport, agro‑ecosystem, and hydrological models to accurately predict weathering rates, carbon sequestration, and environmental impacts of ERW for Brazilian conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Model Development and Refinement
    • Develop and maintain an in‑house ERW model for near‑field (soil) and far‑field (groundwater, surface water, ocean) zones based on existing models.
    • Parameterize and validate the model using data from column, mesocosm, and field experiments to reflect project‑specific conditions.
    • Collaborate with in‑house scientists to design and execute research experiments that inform model development.
  • Simulation and Analysis
    • Conduct simulations to predict feedstock weathering rates and carbon sequestration, and model spatial/temporal transport of weathering products.
    • Estimate field‑scale water fluxes to support porewater‑based CO₂ removal quantification.
    • Analyze results to understand sensitivity to operational and environmental changes and optimize deployment strategy.
    • Predict environmental impacts on soil fertility, water quality, and crop growth.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Build connections with external scientists for collaborative model development.
    • Communicate results through reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Present findings at academic conferences and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
Core Skills & Experience
  • Strong understanding of geochemical processes and hydrological dynamics in soil systems.
  • Proficiency in Python or Fortran for model development.
  • Experience running models on high‑performance computing resources.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, research‑oriented startup environment.
Key Qualities
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Geochemistry, or related field.
  • 3+ years of proven experience developing, modifying, and applying reactive transport, agro‑ecosystem, and/or hydrological models.
Bonus Points
  • Experience modeling watershed‑scale hydrological processes.
  • Experience modeling Enhanced Rock Weathering.
Benefits
  • Open discussion of salary expectations and compensation philosophy in the first interview.
  • Share options for ownership feelings.
  • Home office budget.
  • Fully remote: work from anywhere within CET time zones.
  • Personal development budget.
  • Language programme monthly allowance.
  • 34+ days annual leave.
  • Opportunity to be autonomous, make a huge difference, and belong to a visionary mission.
  • Occasional off‑sites in Brazil.
  • Laptop provided for productivity.
Application Process
  • Interview with Talent & People Partner (values & motivation).
  • Interview with Hiring Manager (core skills and competencies).
  • Optional third interview with cross‑functional team (challenge task).
  • Verbal reference check & psychometric profiling.
  • Offer.
How To Apply
  • Submit your CV in English (main language);
    Portuguese acceptable if justified.
