Job Description
- The student in this position will conduct stewardship duties on Mt. Monadnock during weekend days or other high use days through the year.
- Duties include in-person discussion with hikers on topics such as hiker preparedness, safety, Leave No Trace principles, ecology and history of the mountain, and the fragility of the summit vegetation (7 hr /week).
- The MERE summit stewardship program is part of a regional network of alpine stewards with a mission to conserve the alpine habitat in northeastern North America.
- Formal programming at visitor center or on the trail or summit could be offered.
- Data collection depending on the current research projects of MERE may be required.
- Maintaining the MERE web page, writing technical bulletins and info-graphics, as well as grant writing, are also aspects of the position that can occur in winter months (3 hr / week).
Qualifications
- Outgoing, positive individual with strong group dynamic skills who enjoys climbing mountains and talking to people.
- Has strong desire to learn and share what they have learned about the mountain’s cultural and ecological stories.
- Strong writer and communicator is desired.
