ICF is currently seeking an On-Call Project Archaeologist to support the growth of our cultural resources practice in the Eastern U.S., especially on energy, transportation, and federal sector projects in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Job Description

As a Project Archaeologist at ICF, you will lead and/or contribute to archaeology and cultural resources studies. Technical duties include field survey, laboratory analysis, eligibility evaluation, and documentation for agency and SHPO consultation. You will also support NEPA, Section 106, and state compliance.

What You Will Do
  • Conduct archaeological surveys, testing, and data recovery in the Southeast U.S. and Mid-Atlantic.
  • Provide analysis and writing for environmental regulatory reviews under NEPA, NHPA, and state requirements.
  • Contribute technical expertise in archaeology, including approach development and collaboration with junior and senior colleagues.
  • Write and produce technical reports or documents.
  • Evaluate resources for the National Register of Historic Places and develop resource management recommendations.
  • Collaborate with architectural and landscape historians and integrated multidisciplinary teams.
What You Must Have (Minimum Quals)
  • Master’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional, related experience.
  • Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
What We’d Like You To Have (Preferred Quals)
  • Experience serving as Field Director on archaeological field studies.
  • Ability to conduct field work in remote locations.
  • Knowledge of Southeast archaeology; familiarity with other U.S. regions is a plus.
  • Command of NEPA, NHPA, and state regulations.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and GPS equipment.
  • Specialization in historic archaeology, geoarchaeology, etc.
  • Experience conducting or supporting consultation with Tribal representatives.
  • Participation in project budget development, schedules, deliverables, QA/QC.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist.
