Job Summary

Highly motivated individual sought for a Research Lab Technician Associate position in a basic/translational research laboratory in the Department of Surgery. The candidate will work closely with postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and senior researchers, focusing on basic/translational pancreatic cancer research utilizing mouse models. Prior experience in biomedical research is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Work independently and as part of a team participating in basic science/applied bench research using genetic, cellular, and molecular biological approaches, including mouse model research.
  • Previous training and at least one year’s experience in the care and use of genetically engineered research animals.
  • Knowledge or skill in animal research techniques such as gender determination, proper handling and restraint of mice for routine procedures (e.g., physical examination, medication administration), observation for normal and abnormal changes, appropriate anesthesia and euthanasia, genotyping skills (tail tag, DNA extraction, PCR).
  • Assist with animal tissue dissections; tissue fixation and sectioning; immunohistochemical staining and immunofluorescent staining; digital fluorescence microscopy; image analysis using software such as Image

  • Provide general research support to assist laboratory researchers with experiments on an as‑needed basis, including familiarity with primary cell culture, single‑cell extraction from tissue, RNA/protein isolation, qRT‑PCR, Western blot, flow cytometry, and mass cytometry.
  • Have moderate knowledge or skill in statistics/data analysis and proficiency using Microsoft Office, Graph Pad, and Photoshop.
  • Maintain accurate data logs and ensure smooth functioning of the laboratory.
  • Assist with daily general lab tasks such as dish washing, waste disposal, and cleaning.

The applicant is expected to demonstrate proficiency in these techniques within the first two weeks of hire.

Required Qualifications
  • HS Diploma or Associate’s Degree.
  • 1–2 years of animal and laboratory research experience, with management of an animal colony.
  • Basic laboratory techniques to execute the duties described.
  • Basic computing skills, including knowledge of Excel and Word for database management and record keeping.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and may change at any time.
