Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Alcohol Research Group (ARG), a longstanding program under the auspices of the Public Health Institute, conducts and disseminates high-quality research on the epidemiology of alcohol consumption and problems including related health disparities, alcohol health services research, and alcohol policies while also training future generations of alcohol researchers. ARG is also home to a National Alcohol Research Center, one of multiple program grants awarded nationwide by NIAAA, in addition to home to a number of NIDA, NIMH and state-funded tobacco-related research grants.

Staff are comprised of research scientists, biostatisticians, and research assistants, and administrative support staff.

Working independently under the broad supervision of the Principal Investigators (PI), this position is responsible for assisting and carrying out the activities of the research program as specified in the grant applications.

This is a part-time, 15% FTE position expected to work 6 hours per week. Remote work is an option. The incumbent is required to be available for meetings during core business hours for the Pacific time zone.

Full pay range for this position: $49.46 to $74.50 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is from $49.46 (minimum) to $61.98 (midpoint) per hour. The starting wage is determined using a variety of factors, such as the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity consideration and budget availability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate leadership, knowledge, and contribution to alcohol, tobacco, substance use and/or mental health research fields.
  • Write scientific papers and reports, either independently or in collaboration with peers under the aegis of the Principal Investigators.
  • Prepare human subjects and regulatory materials, including IRB submissions, amendments, and related compliance documentation in coordination with Principal Investigators.
  • Conduct literature searches to identify new or related developments within the appropriate scientific fields and provide syntheses in support of manuscript development.
  • Provide project coordination and research infrastructure support in coordination with Principal Investigators, including coordinating study meetings and documentation, supporting communication across study team members and collaborators, and maintaining organized project documentation and workflows.
  • Participate actively and contribute at study team meetings and, if relevant, partner meetings.
  • Support dissemination activities, including preparing conference abstracts, posters and presentations, and presenting study findings at conferences under the aegis of the Principal Investigators.
  • Contribute to grant or contract applications, including background and significance, conceptual frameworks, specific aims, coordination of submission components and supporting materials, as appropriate.
  • Participate actively in ARG's intellectual/scientific life through presence and presentations in the weekly seminar, confabs, and other research-related seminars.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of relevant work experience in a research position.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in relevant discipline.
