Overview

Welcome to Maastricht University! The world of research is changing rapidly, and research data and software play a crucial role in this transformation. At Maastricht University, you can truly make a difference by helping researchers make their data and software sustainable, visible and reusable, contributing directly to Open Science and future‑proof research.

Research Data & Software Steward

Our goal: To support researchers in sharing and using FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) research data and software as an integral part of Open Science.

Your colleagues: You will work within the Research Support department of the University Library, as part of the Data Stewardship Services team. You will collaborate closely with colleagues from the Research Support Office and with researchers from the Faculty of Science & Engineering (FSE).

As a Research Data & Software Steward, you play a strategically important role in strengthening high‑quality, responsible and open research at Maastricht University, particularly within the fast‑growing and dynamic Faculty of Science and Engineering.

What you do
  • Support researchers in Research Data Management (RDM) and Research Software Management within FSE.
  • Guide researchers in applying best practices for high‑quality research data, software and metadata.
  • Advise on the implementation of the FAIR principles for research data and software outputs.
  • Assist researchers in making their data and software accessible through appropriate repositories.
  • Support the development of data management plans and software management plans.
  • Provide guidance on ethical considerations and compliance with laws and regulations, including GDPR.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions on version control, licensing and open‑source software.
  • Collaborate from a Cross‑UB perspective with colleagues, researchers and support services across the university.

Are you ready to help shape the future of research practices at Maastricht University? Then we’d love to meet you.

What you bring

We’re not looking for check boxes; we’re interested in who you are and what you bring. Do you recognize yourself in this?

  • Translating complexity into clarity: You can translate complex data principles and open‑source concepts into clear and practical guidelines and training for diverse audiences.
  • Open Science expertise: You have a strong Open Science mindset and knowledge of FAIR research data management and FAIR software, particularly for quantitative and computational research.
  • Academic and STEM background: You hold a Master’s degree and have experience in academic research, preferably within the STEM domain.
  • Training and support skills: You have experience developing and delivering training programmes, ideally in reproducible data analysis and open‑source software.
  • Collaboration and initiative: You are a proactive, cooperative professional who enjoys working in a team environment while also taking initiative and working independently. You are fluent in both Dutch and English.
What we offer

At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:

  • A 12‑month contract (0.8 – 1 FTE) with the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction.
  • A gross monthly salary between €3,546 and €5,538 (based on full‑time employment of 38 hours per week), plus 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year‑end bonus.
