About Black Bull Biochar
Black Bull Biochar (BBB) is a growing UK company scaling the use of biochar, a carbon-rich material that improves soil health and removes carbon from the atmosphere. We exist to restore our environment, remove carbon and enrich our industrial and agricultural systems. The company is entering an exciting expansion phase and building a team that will define the future of regenerative agriculture, nutrient management, and carbon removal.
Aboutthe role
This is a pivotal role at the intersection of agronomy, regenerative agriculture, and commercial strategy. As Lead Agronomist, you’ll be the technical and relationship lead for BBB’s farmer-facing work.
You will:
- Advise farmers and landowners on regenerative practices, with biochar as a core component of wider farm transition plans.
- Deliver agronomy consultancy to existing farm clients and corporate partners to build on understanding of how biochar and regenerative farming can be incorporated into their businesses.
- Work closely with our Business Development team on B2B opportunities, sustainability projects, and agricultural research collaborations.
- Represent BBB as an in-house agronomist, shaping trials, feeding insights into product development, and influencing how regenerative agriculture scales in the UK.
- Lead and help develop BBB’s rapidly growing Research and Agronomy Team managing existing and upcoming research field trials.
This role is ideal for an agronomist passionate about regenerative agriculture. You’ll not only advise on biochar but also provide broader regenerative practice support, helping farmers to improve their crop nutrition and soil management.
- Key responsibilities:
Lead farmer engagement: on-farm visits, consultancy sessions, and regenerative transition planning. - Build and manage a sales pipeline where consultancy drives adoption of biochar and related solutions.
- Deliver agronomic advice that integrates biochar into wider regenerative practices to improve crop productivity and soil health.
- Run field trials and demonstrations, ensuring robust data collection and farmer feedback loops.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team on B2B partnerships and sustainability projects.
- Represent BBB at industry events, agronomy networks, and regenerative agriculture forums.
- Feed real-world insights into product development and research initiatives.
- Relevant qualifications in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or related field.
- Practical experience advising farmers or working in agronomy (regenerative experience highly desirable).
- Strong communication skills, able to simplify technical concepts and build trust.
- UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
- BASIS and FACTS qualifications (or clear commitment to achieving them).
- Experience with regenerative agriculture consultancy.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and fast-changing priorities.
