Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate, Physical Ocean Modelling and Analysis, will improve the accuracy of numerical ocean models for the sub-Arctic gateway in North Atlantic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up regional ocean model configurations based on a selected modern ocean model system using realistic geometry and forcing data; perform high-resolution multi-decadal model simulations; introduce model improvements through refining input data and model parameters, and through data assimilation.
  • Evaluate model results using a large variety of ocean observational data; derive statistical measures to quantify model accuracy.
  • Perform statistical analyses of ocean model results to quantify ocean variability; reveal dynamic mechanisms of ocean variability through joint statistical and theoretical analyses, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning) approaches.
  • Prepare and make presentations at scientific meetings and conferences;
    Write and submit research papers in peer reviewed scientific journals.
  • Provide assistance, advice, training and supervision on ocean modelling and analysis to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows working with the PI and collaborators on TCA and related projects.
  • Note

    The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

    Required Qualifications

  • PhD in physical oceanography or closely related disciplinaries from an internationally recognized university, with a minimum of three years of post-doctoral research experience in numerical ocean general circulation modelling and analysis research.
  • Specialized knowledges in numerical modelling schemes, parallel computer programming and operating system software, statistical analysis and programming.
  • Record of productive publication in ocean modelling and analysis, as indicated by a minimum of five peer reviewed papers as the primary author.
