Innovation is the lifeblood of the University of Southampton. Powered by world-class research, we’re growing a portfolio of spin-out companies, enabling the development of products and services that benefit people, businesses and the wider economy. Join us as a Technology Transfer Manager and you’ll play a pivotal part.
Your role
You’ll be joining a university that is consistently highly ranked in the UK for enterprise, commercialisation and knowledge exchange income generated, which has launched 82 spinout and start-up companies since 2000 and which has a very active pipeline of future opportunities. Your work could touch pioneering developments in many different sectors including clean energy and sustainability, marine, bio-engineering, chemicals and materials, electronics and computer science.
You will:
- Work on a portfolio of commercialisation projects to further increase the University’s impact, including Intellectual Property (IP) income generated
- Help manage relationships with key academic staff to understand their research expertise and identify new innovation and commercialisation opportunities
- Use your strong organisational and inter-personal skills to succeed in large, collaborative teams.
You
Previous commercial experience is essential for this role, along with the ability to evaluate the commercial potential of scientific concepts and a sound knowledge of intellectual property issues in a research environment. Enhancing the University’s commercialisation portfolio through additional licensing activity or helping drive the creation of new University spinout companies is an expectation of this role.
We will help you build further networks with industry partners and investors, along with other key external regional stakeholders.
If you have a relevant postgraduate degree (which could include an MBA and/ or PhD) or a similar professional qualification and industry experience and have a keen interest in University commercialisation activity, we’d love to hear from you.
In return, you can look forward to an excellent benefits package and a flexible home/office hybrid working model supporting real work/life balance.
