The Department of Civil Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications to recruit two Postdoctoral Scholars in large-domain hydrological modelling and predictions. The successful applicant(s) will join an active computational hydrology research group and will work with Dr. Alain Pietroniro and Dr. Martyn Clark.
Job DescriptionThe postdoctoral scholar(s) will plan, organize, and conduct research under the supervision of the principal investigators. The successful applicant(s) will:
- Evaluate alternative large-domain multi-model configurations of the large-domain hydrologic models on the basis of both scientific validity and operational feasibility
- Collaborate with the principal investigator on analyzing, interpreting, and using data for publication in professional journals
- Work with the PIs and external partners to identify pathways for broader adoption of next generation prediction models
- Demonstrate a high level of research performance through effective sharing and discussions of ideas in a highly collaborative environment that includes industrial and government partners
- Be expected to identify emerging research opportunities and assist in the completion of grant applications, reporting, and project administration, as required
The position is a full-time appointment, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day. Flexible work hours and remote working arrangements are possible to accommodate critical deadlines.
Qualifications- PhD Degree (Environmental; Engineering; Hydrology, or related) is required. Near completion candidates are also welcome to apply
- Experience with programming in Fortran and Python
- Experience with collaborative model development using Git Hub
- Experience with processing large datasets
- Experience with high performance computing capabilities
- The candidate will demonstrate strong communication, analytical and organizational skills
- Intermediate skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
- Effective time and project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, meet timelines and deadlines
- Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
- A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team are critical to success
- Have a track record in peer reviewed publications in leading journals
