About The Role
Research Technician
This full-time post is immediately available on a fixed-term basis for 1 year, funded by a 3-year NERC grant. The starting salary will be from £30,628 on Grade D, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
We seek a Research Technician to support our research into the ecological impact of vehicle headlights. You would be joining a team of world‑leading researchers with expertise in visual ecology. The research aims to determine how vehicle headlights influence the behaviour, ecology and survival of a range of animals.
The Research Technician will be responsible for running a series of behavioural experiments and field measurements, insect trapping, together with data processing and curation.
The successful candidate will have experience of working with lepidoptera and other insects (trapping, housing, husbandry, handling); IT skills (video tracking, AI video analysis, AI model training, managing video data); use of digital cameras and microscopes. They must also be able to demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with teams of researchers and must be motivated by the opportunity to contribute to research.
The post holder will demonstrate an ability to undertake laboratory and field research, including ensuring safe‑working practices through training and risk assessments, managing inventories of materials and chemicals, and purchasing laboratory supplies.
