Project: Modalities for Understanding, Recording and Integrating Data Across Early life (MURIDAE) – elucidating the neurodevelopmental impact of schizophrenia risk genes.
OverviewThe MURIDAE project seeks to understand how recently identified schizophrenia risk gene variants perturb brain development and affect brain function, behaviour and cognition. The post‑doctoral research associate (PDRA) will work in the Dawson laboratory (Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, Lancaster University) alongside Dr Neil Dawson and Dr Steven Clapcote (University of Leeds) within the MRC National Mouse Genetics Network (NMGN).
Responsibilities• Analyse brain function at the circuit and behavioural level across development using genetically modified mice with schizophrenia risk gene mutations.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues across multiple UK institutions within the MURIDAE Cluster.
• Conduct brain imaging, behavioural assays and data integration to investigate the developmental impact of novel mouse models.
• Prepare scientific manuscripts and presentations for internal and external dissemination.
• Support junior team members and contribute to a collegial research environment.
• PhD in preclinical translational neuroscience, brain imaging, or a related field.
• Experience with mouse models, brain imaging techniques and behavioural assays.
• Preferred:
Home Office personal licence.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to work independently and solve problems creatively.
• Coding and image analysis skills are advantageous; training will be provided if required.
• Strong interest in applying these methods to investigate brain development in genetic risk models for schizophrenia.
