Location: Belfast with hybrid working, please note that you must live or be willing to relocate to Northern Ireland for this role.

As our Resource Management Junior Analyst, you will work with real-world waste and recycling data to help us understand what is happening across the sector and why. You will work with information from Local Authorities, businesses and other sources to investigate questions about waste arisings, collection, recycling, materials and resource management.

You will be part of our Policy, Research and Data team, working alongside experienced analysts and researchers. You will have the opportunity to develop your analytical and research skills while contributing to projects that inform policy, support decision-making and improve understanding of the waste and resources system.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys working out what the data is telling us, investigating when something doesn't look right and turning evidence into information that people can use. You will need to be curious, methodical and comfortable working with datasets that are not always neat or straightforward.

• Work with Local Authority and Business Waste data, gathering information from different sources and checking that it is complete, consistent and fit for analysis.
• Analyse waste and recycling data to identify trends, differences, gaps and anomalies and help answer specific questions about how waste is managed.
• Turn analysis and research into useful outputs, including tables, charts, written findings, reports and presentations that can be understood and used by colleagues, Local Authorities, industry and government.
• Maintain and quality-check Local Authority information, ensuring that datasets, records and supporting evidence are accurate, current and traceable.
• Investigate discrepancies and unexpected results, working back to the underlying source information to understand why data may differ or appear inconsistent.

• Strong Excel or spreadsheet skills, with experience cleaning, manipulating and analysing datasets rather than simply entering or presenting data. You should be comfortable using filters, sorting, some formulas and pivot tables, and turning the results into clear data tables or charts.
• Experience carrying out research or evidence gathering on waste, recycling, resources or environmental topics. This could include finding and assessing information from government, local authority, industry, academic or other credible source and bringing evidence together to answer a specific question.
• The ability to distinguish between evidence and assumption. You will be expected to question whether data is reliable and comparable, understand its limitations and be comfortable saying when the evidence does not support a particular conclusion.
• The ability to turn analysis into useful findings. You can explain what a dataset, research exercise or analysis means in practical terms and produce concise written findings, tables, charts or presentations that allow others to understand and use the evidence.
• A degree involving numerical analysis, environmental science, research methods, geography, economics or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in waste, recycling, environmental research or data analysis.
