About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Research Chemist with a strong focus on Synthetic Organic Chemistry to join their leading R&D division in Sandton. This position is critical for driving the synthesis of novel compounds that form the basis of our future product lines. You will lead complex synthetic projects, design efficient routes, and contribute significantly to the discovery pipeline.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned synthetic chemist with a deep understanding of reaction mechanisms, purification techniques, and analytical characterization, who thrives in a challenging and rewarding research environment. - Design and execute multi-step synthetic pathways for novel organic molecules of increasing complexity.
- Optimize reaction conditions, yields, and purification procedures for target compounds.
- Utilize a wide range of modern synthetic techniques and methodologies.
- Characterize synthesized compounds using various analytical methods, including NMR, MS, and HPLC.
- Collaborate with computational chemists and biologists to guide synthesis efforts.
- Maintain meticulous laboratory records and contribute to patent applications and scientific publications.
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
- Demonstrated expertise in organic synthesis, reaction development, and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques for compound characterization.
- Experience with literature searching and using chemical databases.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong written and verbal communication skills.
