Senior Computational Biologist - Drug Discovery

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Computational Biologist to join their fully remote drug discovery R&D team. This role is critical for leveraging advanced computational and data science approaches to accelerate the identification and validation of novel drug targets and therapeutic strategies. You will work with large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, to uncover biological insights and guide experimental efforts.

• Analyze large, multi-omic datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, etc.) to identify and prioritize potential drug targets.
• Develop and apply computational methods for analyzing biological pathways, network interactions, and disease mechanisms.
• Collaborate closely with experimental biologists, chemists, and clinicians to integrate computational findings with experimental validation.
• Build predictive models for drug efficacy, toxicity, and patient stratification.
• Design and implement robust bioinformatics pipelines and databases for data management and analysis.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies in computational biology and bioinformatics relevant to drug discovery.
• Communicate complex results and insights effectively to both scientific and project teams.

• Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in computational biology or bioinformatics, with a significant focus on drug discovery or pharmaceutical R&D.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with bioinformatics libraries and tools.
• Experience with large biological datasets and high-performance computing environments is essential.
• Solid understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and drug development processes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and the capacity to work independently in a remote environment in Upington.
