About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Cheminformatics Specialist to join their dynamic R&D team, operating primarily remotely with occasional requirements in Pretoria . This role is essential for developing and applying computational methods to analyze chemical and biological data, accelerating drug discovery and development. You will be instrumental in designing and implementing workflows that integrate diverse datasets, providing critical insights for lead optimization and target identification.
This position offers a stimulating environment for a specialist passionate about the intersection of chemistry, biology, and computer science, contributing to impactful projects in the Gauteng province.
- Develop and maintain cheminformatics databases and tools for drug discovery projects.
- Apply QSAR and other computational modeling techniques to predict compound activity and properties.
- Design and execute virtual screening campaigns.
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists and biologists to guide compound design and selection.
- Visualize and analyze chemical structure-activity relationships.
- Ensure the quality and integrity of chemical data and computational analyses.
- PhD or Master's degree in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in cheminformatics or computational chemistry within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
- Proficiency with cheminformatics software and toolkits (e.g., RDKit, MOE, Schrödinger).
- Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages.
- Experience with databases and data management for chemical information.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
