Remote Forest Ecologist - Conservation Focus

About the Role  Our client is seeking a dedicated Remote Forest Ecologist with a strong background in conservation to join their research team. This fully remote position allows you to contribute to critical ecological studies and conservation initiatives from anywhere in South Africa. You will be involved in analyzing forest ecosystems, assessing biodiversity, and developing strategies for habitat restoration and protection.

This role is ideal for an independent, research-oriented ecologist who is passionate about preserving natural landscapes and can effectively collaborate virtually with colleagues and stakeholders. Your work will directly inform conservation efforts and contribute to the long-term health of forest ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities   Conduct ecological surveys and biodiversity assessments in various forest types.
Analyze forest ecosystem dynamics, including species interactions, nutrient cycling, and succession.
Develop and evaluate conservation strategies, including habitat restoration and invasive species management plans.
Collect, manage, and analyze ecological data using statistical software and GIS tools.
Prepare scientific reports, research papers, and presentations for diverse audiences.
Collaborate virtually with conservation organizations, government agencies, and research partners.
Requirements   Ph.D. in Ecology, Forestry, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in forest ecology research and conservation.
Proven expertise in ecological survey methods and data analysis.
Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and statistical packages (e.g., R, SPSS).
Experience in conservation planning and project implementation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration and reporting.
