Remote Senior Research Scientist - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a highly accomplished Senior Research Scientist specializing in Genomics for a fully remote position, supporting their operations that span across South Africa, including Paarl . This critical role will involve leading the design, execution, and analysis of large-scale genomic studies to uncover genetic variations associated with complex diseases and traits. You will collaborate extensively with a geographically dispersed team of scientists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians, driving research initiatives from conceptualization to publication.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of genomic technologies, statistical genetics, and possesses exceptional communication skills necessary for effective remote collaboration, contributing to groundbreaking discoveries in human health.

• Design and manage complex genomic research projects , including study design, sample selection, and data acquisition.
• Analyze large-scale genomic datasets (e.g., whole-genome sequencing, exome sequencing, SNP arrays) using advanced statistical and bioinformatics tools.
• Develop and implement novel analytical approaches for variant calling, association studies, and population genetics.
• Interpret genomic findings and translate them into biologically meaningful insights and potential clinical applications.
• Collaborate closely with bioinformatics teams, clinicians, and other researchers through virtual platforms.

• Ph.D. in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Genetics, or a related quantitative life science field.
• Minimum of 6 years of research experience in human genomics , with a strong focus on data analysis and interpretation.
• Proficiency with standard genomic analysis software and pipelines (e.g., PLINK, GATK, Hail).
• Experience with statistical programming languages such as R or Python for data analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a remote setting.
