About the Role
Our client is seeking an exceptional Principal Chemist to lead advanced research in Materials Science at their state-of-the-art facility in Rustenburg. This senior role is crucial for driving innovation in the development of novel materials with unique properties for a range of industrial applications. You will be at the forefront of chemical research, conceptualizing and executing projects that push the boundaries of material performance.
This position is ideal for a visionary scientist who thrives on complex problem-solving and seeks to make a significant impact in a leading R&D organization, with a significant portion of the role being adaptable for remote work.
- Lead independent research projects focused on the synthesis, characterization, and application of new advanced materials.
- Develop novel chemical formulations and manufacturing processes to achieve desired material properties.
- Utilize advanced analytical techniques (e.g., spectroscopy, chromatography, microscopy) for in-depth material characterization.
- Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to translate laboratory findings into scalable production.
- Mentor and guide junior chemists and technicians, fostering a culture of scientific rigor and innovation.
- Author patents, publications, and technical reports documenting research findings and intellectual property.
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of extensive R&D experience in materials chemistry or polymer science.
- Demonstrated expertise in synthetic chemistry, organic and inorganic materials, and polymer chemistry.
- Proficiency with advanced analytical instrumentation and techniques for materials characterization.
- Proven ability to lead complex research projects from conception to completion.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and remotely effectively.
