Senior Bioinformatician - Genomics

Our client is seeking a dedicated Senior Bioinformatician with extensive experience in Genomics to join their advanced scientific research and development team in Durban . This role involves analyzing large-scale genomic datasets, developing sophisticated pipelines, and contributing to critical research projects aimed at understanding genetic variations and their implications. You will collaborate closely with molecular biologists, geneticists, and other computational scientists, working in a hybrid model that balances focused in-office collaboration with the flexibility of remote work.

• Develop, implement, and maintain scalable bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
• Perform variant calling, annotation, and association studies using large genomic datasets.
• Collaborate with experimental teams to design genomic experiments and interpret results.
• Contribute to the development of new analytical methods and tools for genomic data analysis.
• Ensure data integrity, quality control, and proper documentation of all bioinformatics workflows.
• Present findings to internal teams and potentially at scientific conferences.

• Ph.D. or M.S. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in bioinformatics, with a strong focus on genomics .
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl, and experience with command-line tools.
• Solid understanding of statistical genetics, population genetics, and variant analysis.
• Experience with NGS data analysis platforms and tools (e.g., GATK, Samtools, BWA).
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a hybrid work environment located in Durban .
