Data Scientist
The Studio D3 Fellowship is hosted by the Allen Institute. This three-year data science fellowship program has the following aims:
- Integrate Data Scientists into Basic Biology Research - The Fellowship will serve to promote the entry of quantitative scientists, with a Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or mathematics with a background in statistical, computational and machine learning methods, into the field of biology.
- Challenge Traditional Approaches to Biology
- Fellows are encouraged to develop research programs to bring novel mathematical, computational, and theoretical approaches to living systems. Fellows will have independence in selection and focus of research direction. - Network and Community Building - The Studio D3 Fellowship will facilitate the growth of fellows’ scientific and professional networks with ongoing opportunities to meet and interact with peers and established scientists.
- Career Development - It is expected that fellows will participate in career development activities and present their research at relevant professional gatherings.
The Studio D3 Fellowship is designed to immerse quantitative scientists in an intellectually vibrant, highly collaborative environment that advances data-driven discovery through interdisciplinary curiosity. Fellows work with mentors from the Allen Institute and Studio D3 affiliates on biological questions with mathematical approaches that enhance the work of our accelerators to extract knowledge and uncover new principles of living systems using Allen Institute data.
The Allen Institute is known for systematized large-scale data collection including molecular, genomic, transcriptional, physiological, morphological, anatomical, and functional data from mice, non-human primates, and humans. Fellows will engage deeply with Allen Institute scientific teams spanning Brain Science, Cell Science, Immunology, Neural Dynamics, Brain Health, and Synthetic Biology while embracing the concepts of Team Science and Open Science in their research practices.
At the Allen Institute, we believe that science is for everyone – and should be open to everyone. We are dedicated to combating biases and reducing barriers to STEM careers more broadly.
We also believe that science is better when it includes different perspectives and voices. We strive to make the Allen Institute a place where everyone feels like they belong and are empowered to do their best work in a supportive environment.
We are an equal-opportunity employer and strongly encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for our open positions.
