Pet Smart’s Store Leader has leadership oversight of the safety of people and pets, pet parent experience, operational execution, financial outcomes, and all human resource functions within all areas of the store. This role provides exemplary leadership for the store by driving the company culture and strategies, achieving targeted results, championing exceptional pet parent service and efficient execution of the store’s daily business while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy within the store.
EssentialResponsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, these areas and may vary by store characteristics and needs:
People Leadership- Responsible for employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and terminating.
- Builds an open-door culture by engaging and listening to associates; leverages the Voice of Associate tool to respond to feedback.
- Accountable for creating and posting the store schedule after input from Experience and Process Leader.
- Facilitates associate experience and development, including reviews, recognition, training, onboarding, mentoring, and succession planning.
- Delegates effectively, empowers others to succeed, and encourages ownership of results.
- Cascades information to associates and adjusts priorities to meet goals.
- Ensures alignment and responsiveness to a changing environment.
- Addresses associate complaints and grievances.
- Recognizes and celebrates associates driving engagement.
- Ensures on-time delivery of all associate reviews.
- Leads the associate and pet parent experience; ensures pets in our care are safe and healthy.
- Owns pet parent experience and outcomes across channels; responds to concerns.
- Builds a store environment focused on delivering exceptional pet parent and associate experiences.
- Evaluates operations and seeks opportunities to improve processes and services.
- Collaborates with Store Leadership to ensure efficient outcomes of in-store and community events.
- Maintains store standards and ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and code of ethics.
- Conducts monthly Core and Services Walks to validate execution of policies.
- Prioritizes a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents.
- Ensures proper inventory management to maintain in-stock levels.
- Communicates business and financial objectives to leaders and associates.
- Reviews in-store camera footage to assess safety practices and provide coaching as needed.
- Manages response to sick/injured pets and coordinates care as needed.
- Supports opening and closing procedures to uphold brand promise.
- Delivers corporate strategy and profitability goals by executing leadership direction.
- Analyzes reports, identifies root causes, and communicates results with improvement plans.
- Drives opportunities to grow the business and holds associates accountable for store P&L targets.
- Manages expenses such as labor and supplies; coordinates with home office partners on store-related work orders and purchasing.
- Creates and posts store schedules; processes payroll weekly within budget.
- Performs required reporting and paperwork; supports store needs with errands as needed.
