Johnson Controls is seeking a seasoned Business Development Director – Energy Solutions to lead the sale of large, complex, bundled offerings to government and multifamily building owners, driving energy cost reductions, water loss prevention, and quality work environments.
Base pay range$/yr – $/yr.
What You Will DoLead the end‑to‑end sales process, promote JCI’s value proposition to C‑level decision makers, build and manage long‑term customer relationships, and expand the breadth and depth of offerings within key vertical markets including low‑income and multifamily housing, assisted living, and military housing.
How You Will Do It- Lead ongoing discussions with Department of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, State Energy Offices, and other federal/state entities.
- Demonstrate value at the executive level, sell, renew, and expand renewable service agreements, including multi‑year agreements.
- Build partnering relationships with economic buyers, owners, or representatives responsible for decision‑making to drive the solution sales of JCI offerings.
- Manage the sales process, develop relationships, respond to and anticipate customer needs, and actively listen and probe.
- Target and initiate contact with prospective customers, qualifying and assessing potential opportunities.
- Recommend solutions that match customers’ business and financial challenges.
- Maximize assigned resources effectively and efficiently, ensuring maximum value for both customer and JCI.
- Prepare, present, and communicate proposals; secure major opportunities through financial agreements and negotiated value.
- Utilize applicable sales tools (Salesforce, Account Management, Account Plan, TAS) to plan and document progress.
- Lead the sales team, fostering relationships and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Serve as the customer’s advocate within JCI, ensuring the best value and proper orientation to system operation.
- Assist in developing sales and marketing plans and strategies, targeting new customers based on vertical market strategies.
- Keep management informed of progress and account status, and call for assistance when needed.
- Attend and present at trade shows and professional organizations.
Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline. Minimum five to seven years of progressive field sales experience at the C‑level. Proven sales record, preferably in government/multifamily housing vertically. Excellent initiative, interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to influence markets at key levels. Ability to travel up to 45% of the time.
