Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of a well-established IT managed services provider for an ambitious Business Development Manager to join its growing sales team. The business partners with organisations ranging from SMEs to large enterprises, acting as a long-term strategic technology partner rather than a one-off supplier. This new-business role is central to its growth plans, bringing new clients on board through recurring managed service agreements.

The Role

This is a technical, consultative sales role focused entirely on winning new clients. You will build your own pipeline through self-generated prospecting as well as leads from marketing activity, then guide prospects from first conversation through to signed contract. The role suits someone with a proven track record in IT or managed services sales who enjoys understanding how businesses operate, uncovering the real problems they face, and shaping solutions that deliver lasting value.

You will be supported by technical colleagues, but will need enough technical understanding to discuss solutions credibly with business and IT decision-makers.

Responsibilities for the Business Development Manager:
  • Identify target accounts and generate new business through telephone, email, Linked In and networking, securing qualified first meetings.
  • Follow up leads from marketing campaigns and lead-generation activity, preparing for and running meetings with clear agendas and outcomes.
  • Lead with managed services as the core offering, positioning the business as a proactive, long-term partner.
  • Run a structured consultative sales process, validating business need, value, budget and decision-making before presenting solutions.
  • Identify and close associated professional services and infrastructure opportunities that support long-term client relationships.
  • Produce clear, outcome-led proposals and presentations, and maintain accurate CRM records, pipeline stages and forecasts.
Requirements for the Business Development Manager include:
  • Proven new-business sales experience within IT services, ideally selling recurring managed services (MSP experience is highly advantageous).
  • Technical understanding of IT solutions, with exposure to infrastructure, cloud and/or cyber security sales.
  • A consultative, value-led selling style with strong questioning, listening and negotiation skills.
  • Confidence presenting to and building rapport with senior and C-level decision-makers.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including recurring and non-recurring revenue and gross profit, with disciplined CRM and forecasting habits.
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to client meetings.
Benefits:
  • Circa £35-40k basic salary DOE, plus commission.
  • Hybrid working, with a mix of office, client-site and home working.
  • Generous holiday allowance that increases with service, plus bank holidays and an extra day off for your birthday.
  • Company pension with a generous matched employer contribution.
  • Personalised learning and development plan, including support towards technical sales qualifications.
  • Business mileage allowance, Employee Assistance Programme, Cycle to Work and electric vehicle salary sacrifice schemes.
  • A friendly, sociable office culture with regular social events and charity fundraising.

If you are a driven IT sales professional looking to build a long-term career with a business that values genuine client partnerships, we would love to hear from you.

Note on Sponsorship: We regret to inform you that at this time, we are unable to offer sponsorship for work authorisation for this role. Therefore, candidates must possess valid authorisation to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship.
