Job Description & How to Apply Below

Adventure Scientists is a nonprofit organization on a mission to protect the planet by pairing scientists with individuals uniquely capable of gathering difficult-to-obtain data. Our team collaborates with scientists worldwide to solve pressing environmental challenges, from biodiversity to climate change. Every role here offers a chance to make an impact on a global scale!

🙋♀️ About the Role

We’re looking for a
Whitebark Pine Field Marketing Fellow to help us document and protect one of North America’s most iconic and threatened alpine tree species. This seasonal, low-commitment role blends mountain adventure, creativity, and conservation, perfect for someone already skiing, hiking, or exploring the Pacific Northwest this winter who wants to support science in a meaningful way.

You’ll collect field data on whitebark pine trees while capturing photos, reels, and stories that spark public awareness and action. We’re not seeking full‑time staff, we’re looking for someone who’s already out there enjoying wild places and would be excited to get paid a stipend to turn those trips into something bigger.

You’ll be supported throughout by our Project Manager and receive a brand toolkit with all the guidance you need.

  • Collect observational data on whitebark pine while doing what you already love – ski touring, mountaineering, winter hiking, or splitboarding in alpine terrain.
  • Participate in at least 5 field days per month (flexible timing, based on your schedule and weather conditions)
  • Capture and deliver weekly content (5–10 photos, 1 short video/reel, and 1 social media draft post)
  • Attend 2–3 local events during the season to represent Adventure Scientists (we’ll cover any entry fees)
  • Act as a brand ambassador: post flyers, engage local outdoor shops and partners, and meet potential volunteers
  • Share positive environmental messages in person and online
  • Submit deliverables on time and aligned with our content guidelines (we’ll provide a toolkit)
  • Expertise in content creation (with a professional camera or great quality camera phone) and storytelling through photography and short‑form video.
  • Based in or able to spend at least 5 days/month in mountainous areas of Oregon and/or Washington between November 2025 and February 2026.
  • Passion for alpine ecosystems, forests, and climate resilience.
  • Confidence being on camera and engaging with people in person.
  • Ability to work independently in field conditions.
  • Knowledge of whitebark pine ecology or alpine environments
  • Previous involvement in conservation, forestry, or science communication
  • Avalanche safety awareness or wilderness first aid training

Field-based in Oregon or Washington mountain regions, with remote reporting.

$2,000 in total for the duration of the contract (November 2025 – February 2026)

At Adventure Scientists, we believe in a transparent, enjoyable, and thorough hiring experience that ensures mutual alignment.

  • Initial Conversation:
Quick call with our People Operations team to learn more about your story and interests.
  • Portfolio Review:
Share photo/video/social samples or past projects.
  • Final Interview:
Conversation with the project team to align on expectations.

The process typically takes 2–3 weeks.
