About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Licensed Optician with a deep background in optical lens labs to join their research and development team. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in lens finishing, assembly, and final inspection to support cutting-edge projects in augmented reality and lens design. Your work will be critical to advancing innovative optical treatments and ensuring the highest standards of quality in every phase of the lens production process.

Responsibilities
Daily Expectations for Your Role
- Perform detailed lens finishing, assembly, and final inspections while adhering to prescribed optical standards.
- Calibrate and use manual and automated lensometers, lens clocks, and thickness calipers to ensure accurate measurements.
- Assemble and mount lenses on various frame types including Zyl, metal, and specialty frames, ensuring precise alignment and durability.
- Assist in R&D initiatives by providing technical support and contributing insights to the development of freeform digital lens designs and advanced optical treatments (e.g., hydrophobic, oleophobic, and photochromic lenses).
- Maintain clear and detailed records of procedures and outcomes, and provide regular written and verbal reports to the engineering team.
Qualifications For Success
What It Takes
- A valid Spectacle Lens Dispenser License for Washington State and at least one additional state (New York, New Jersey, Hawaii, North Carolina, South Carolina, Vermont, or New Hampshire).
- Certification from the American Board of Opticianry (ABO).
- At least 1 year of experience in optical lab finishing, with hands-on proficiency in both manual and automated lens measuring tools.
- Familiarity with ANSI standards for both dress and industrial lenses.
- Ability to work remotely while being based in or near the Seattle/Redmond area, with occasional onsite commitments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Certification from the American Board of Opticianry (ABO-AC).
- Prior experience working in high-tech R&D environments, particularly in projects integrating augmented reality and generative AI.
This is a part-time contract role (6-month duration) with our client, combining remote work with occasional on-site presence in the Seattle/Redmond area. You will be part of a dynamic team driving forward innovative projects in augmented reality and optical lens design, ensuring that both quality and safety remain paramount.
