My client has an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious and driven Ecologist to join their award-winning Ecology team. The role can be based from any one of their four locations (Central London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham) with significant flexible working arrangements. This is an exciting opportunity offering the successful candidate a role that will significantly broaden and diversify their Ecology career.

My client is a leading independent consultancy working with a diverse range of high-profile clients and projects across the UK, focusing on projects where sustainability and climate change are central.

This role offers the chance to work on a range of projects mainly across the development and planning sector, involving diverse ecology work in areas such as Green Infrastructure, Natural Capital, Biodiversity Net Gain, and Urban Greening. There is also strategic responsibility and mentoring of junior ecologists.

They work with a varied portfolio of clients including landowners, developers, architects and local authorities, providing breadth of work not always available in other consultancies. They are looking for a Senior (or near-senior) Ecological Consultant to join the team and assist with delivering a diverse range of projects.

Responsibilities
  • Manage complex ecology projects, including scenarios involving multiple protected species.
  • Produce tenders, liaise with clients, manage finances and plan surveys.
  • Run unique urban biodiversity projects, such as bespoke ecological monitoring of living roofs and green infrastructure strategy production.
  • Mentor staff and undertake technical reviews.
  • Contribute to strategy development and new business generation.
  • Provide input into project delivery and coordination across teams as required.
Location

Central London/Manchester/Bristol/Birmingham (2 days a week working from home available; part-time considered). Other locations considered.

About You
  • Ideally 4+ years of professional experience.
  • Graduate degree (MSc desirable) in ecology, biology, environmental science or similar.
  • MCIEEM and CEnv or CEcol desirable.
  • Highly organised and motivated; access to a car with full driver’s licence.
  • Excellent report writing skills; enthusiastic about nature conservation.
  • Available to work flexible hours to support ecology surveys.
  • Hold a European protected species licence for bats and experience with EPSM licence preparation and delivery.
  • Experience/knowledge of green infrastructure and urban biodiversity (desirable).
In Return / My Client Offers
  • Highly competitive salary.
  • Extensive benefits package including healthcare, pension, generous holiday entitlement.
  • Performance bonus, typically around 10% per annum.
  • Flexible working conditions, including regular homeworking and flexible hours.
  • Significant training budget.
