In Canada, the Senior Aquatic Biologist provides technical leadership on aquatic biology and water resource permitting components of natural resource projects. This is a Calgary, Alberta based full-time role, primarily office-based, with opportunities to work on multi-disciplinary project teams guiding aquatic environmental planning and permitting for government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. The role includes directing and supervising deliverables, developing methodology, reviewing regulatory applications, and supporting business development.
The successful candidate will be recognized as a technical expert and able to defend the technical rigor of the work.

Responsibilities- Provide technical leadership on aquatic biology and water resource permitting for natural resource projects.
- Coordinate, mentor, and support a team of biologists; supervise deliverables across design, construction, and operations phases.
- Lead the development of methodologies and review of deliverables and regulatory applications.
- Establish and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, and sub-contractors; contribute to business development.
- Guide projects as part of multi-disciplinary teams and ensure regulatory compliance.
- B.Sc., M.Sc., Doctorate, or other applicable degree in biology or environmental science with relevant aquatic studies experience.
- Hold or be eligible for Professional Designation under the BC College of Applied Biology and/or the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists.
- Minimum 15+ years of experience as a Fish/Aquatic Biologist in western Canada, preferably in a consulting environment.
- In-depth knowledge of the Federal Fisheries Act and applicable provincial/federal environmental legislation in western Canada.
- Experience overseeing aquatic field work and directing/managing crews in remote settings.
- Experience leading and mentoring biologists; involvement in hiring and developing mentoring relationships.
- Excellent technical writing skills and experience with technical reviews.
- Relevant oil and gas regulatory experience; ability to liaise with regulators and provide strategic regulatory advice during all project stages.
- Experience with a diverse range of industrial clients (oil and gas, mining, transportation, energy).
- Business development experience and client relationship management.
- Time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines within budget.
- Driver’s license and clean driving record for travel.
