The START Center for Cancer Research ("START") is the world’s largest early phase site network, fully dedicated to oncology clinical research. With over 1,300 studies completed worldwide and research facilities in the United States, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland, START accelerates the development of new anticancer drugs to improve the quality of life and survival for patients with cancer. START brings cancer trials to community hospitals and practices, ensuring broader patient access to cutting‑edge therapies.
Responsibilities- Collect internally generated data, including small animal body weights and tumor dimensions, and store them on the internal server.
- Perform day‑to‑day procedures such as small animal handling, husbandry, surgery, anesthesia, cell culture, blood and tissue collection, tumor implantation, cell injection, euthanasia, sample processing (cryopreservation, cryofreezing, fixation), sterilization, and cleaning. Tasks may require multitasking, lifting >40 pounds, standing or sitting for extended periods, and repetitive movements.
- Prepare, aliquot, and properly store vehicles, drugs, media, and laboratory solutions.
- Administer agents by various routes on specified dosing schedules.
- Attend meetings and briefings regarding preclinical studies as needed.
- Assist with animal and laboratory activities, data preparation, and administrative log management.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 1 year of similar experience.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Knowledge and training in animal handling and research.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Use fine motor skills for daily tasks.
- Full range of motion (reach, bend, etc.).
- Lift up to 40 pounds.
- Understand safety procedures associated with biological, investigational, or hazardous materials (BSL2 or lower).
- Work safely with sharps, needles, scalpel blades, lancets, etc.
- Don full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
