As an Environmental Biotechnology Project Scientist, you will deliver exciting biotechnology development and advisory projects within our mining portfolio and support our broader team in delivering high-quality and sustainable solutions to our clients. This unique position is focused on advancing site-specific technology readiness of our environmental biotechnologies in water treatment and source control strategies. Your work will combine technical consulting work with hands-on development, laboratory testing, and pilot-scale projects in our one-of-a-kind facilities in Saskatoon, paired with deployment of field trials. We don’t do routine analytical lab work – we conduct innovative technology advancement and site-specific optimization.
This role requires full-time, in-lab involvement at our Saskatoon office, working closely with the laboratory team on critical projects. Consulting responsibilities can be carried out in a hybrid arrangement, split between your home office and the Saskatoon office.
Your role will contribute to our mission of developing sustainable solutions through conducting research, studies, analysis, and quality control and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
- You will support the technical delivery on projects across our North American operations under the guidance of a Senior Environmental Biotechnology professional.
Responsibilities include:- Applying commonly used calculations and screening parameters efficiently to water quality datasets.
- Analyzing data and providing recommendations for optimizing client water treatment activities and biological treatment plants.
- Delivering day-to-day project activities on environmental biotechnology, including biological and semi-passive water treatment and biogeochemical source control Projects.
- Collaborating with our senior QPs to conduct Best Available Technology (BAT) assessments for client feasibility studies.
- Write and/or review reports, memos, figures, tables and other technical documents
- Technical Delivery of Laboratory and Pilot-scale trials, and contribute to the design of field- and full-scale biogeochemical water treatment and source control projects.
- Developing and designing treatability testing plans and experiments for our Saskatoon Lab facility and on-site testing/pilot work, while providing technical oversight to the laboratory and pilot-facility team.
- Contribute to the design, analysis, interpretation, recommendations, and reporting associated with these studies for water treatment systems and source control strategies for the mining and resources sectors.
- Learn and apply calculations associated with our proprietary technologies (e.g. mSource, mGrow, mBio).
- Communicating effectively with clients, internal team members, and support services to ensure alignment on deliverables.
- Support with the development and implementation of processes that enhance productivity and efficiency.

What We’re Looking For:
- Master’s or PhD degree in Environmental Biotechnology, Applied/Environmental Microbiology, Biogeochemistry, Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Biological/Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on laboratory experience and supervisory experience in a laboratory or pilot setting are considered an asset.
- 7+ years of applied experience in microbiological and/or geochemical analysis within environmental, mining, or water sectors would be considered an asset.
- P.Chem. or P.Eng. certification is considered an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior consulting advisory experience would be considered an asset.
- Prior experience with project and/or technical team oversight is required.
