RSS Infrastructure is seeking a motivated assistant ecologist to join our growing managed environments team. This role supports ecological projects across England and Wales, working closely with clients, operatives, and senior ecologists. focusing on Ecological Clerk of Works (EcoW) work, habitat and protected species surveys. It offers strong development opportunities within a collaborative, safety-first environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Undertake ECoW duties ensuring compliance with methodologies and licences
• Carry out habitat and protected species surveys in line with legislation and best practice
• Produce high-quality ecological reports, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies
• Provide ecological advice, toolbox talks, watching briefs, and on-site support
• Support project delivery from client engagement and quoting through to reporting
• Liaise with clients, statutory bodies, and stakeholders
Requirements
• Experience in an ecological role including ECoW duties
• Experience with protected species surveys
• Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation
• Strong report writing and communication skills
• Full UK driving licence
• Flexibility for occasional evening/weekend work
• Protected species license (Bat, Dormouse)
• Consultancy or project-based ecology experience
• PTS and/or CSCS certification
• Experience with QGIS and BNG tools
• Commercial and project management experience
