Biodiversity Officer - 32919 (Environment Agency, East Midlands)
Join our Biodiversity and Geomorphology team to protect wildlife and shape resilient ecosystems. The role focuses on providing expert advice on species conservation and habitat enhancement, embedding biodiversity into river maintenance and restoration projects.
Responsibilities- Provide expert ecological advice to ensure biodiversity is embedded within river maintenance and restoration projects.
- Design and deliver protected species surveys for species such as badgers, bats, crayfish, otters, and water voles.
- Lead Biodiversity Net Gain initiatives and work with natural processes to achieve measurable environmental improvements.
- Engage colleagues and partners, building trusted networks to deliver outcomes that no one could achieve alone.
- Offer planning advice and influence flood risk and water resource decisions to ensure ecological considerations are followed.
- Experienced ecologist, MCIEEM preferred, with strong survey skills for the species listed.
- Strong knowledge of riparian habitats and restoration; training on the Water Framework Directive can be provided.
- Ability to review ecological appraisals, influence stakeholders and identify opportunities for habitat restoration.
- Strong influencing and partnership skills, proactive, self‑starting approach, and creativity in finding biodiversity solutions.
- Excellent communication skills – able to explain complex legislation clearly to non‑technical audiences.
- Relevant degree in ecology or a related discipline.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Membership of CIEEM (required).
Membership of MCIEEM (preferred).
- Hybrid working from home and Nottingham office, with site visits across the East Midlands.
