We are currently seeking an Environmental Compliance Coordinator to manage the environmental portion of a Distribution Transformer Inspection Program. The program inspects up to 40,000 underground transformers per year. This role combines office-based program management with field support and coordination of environmental compliance activities.
The ideal candidate is organized, self-motivated, and an excellent communicator who can manage databases, coordinate with contractors and internal stakeholders, and support timely environmental remediation and regulatory reporting.

- A standard 5-day, 40-hour work week, with opportunities for overtime when needed and approved.
- A hybrid schedule consisting of approximately 60% office work and 40% field work.
- Three days per week working from an office is required; remote work from home two days per week is optional.
Program & Data Management
- Manage the environmental portion of the Distribution Transformer Inspection Program.
- Manage and maintain spreadsheets and databases used to track transformer replacement and repair status when oil contamination or leaks are present.
- Coordinate with the Asset Management Team to support successful program rollouts across all 32 districts.
- Track spend rates and manage budgets.
- Communicate with inspection contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure timely remediation of oil spills.
- Report oil spills internally and, when required, externally to VADEQ.
- Approve or deny environmental containment while inspectors are in the field.
- Dispatch spill response vendors to remediate oil contamination.
- Document spill response measures and perform QA/QC of cleanup efforts when necessary.
- Make proper PCB/non-PCB determinations and manage PCBs in accordance with TSCA regulations when discovered.
- Attend in-person meetings and provide training and guidance when necessary.
- Assist with environmental tasks such as SPCC/SWPPP inspections, management of universal and hazardous waste, and support of the collective team during storm events.
NEED TO HAVE :
- Approximately 2-8 years of experience in a combination of environmental management, SWPPP/CGP inspections, waste management, spill response/remediation, SPCC/tank inspections, state/federal agency reporting, wetland delineations, PCB management, or NPDES/VPDES work.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organization skills and the ability to be a self-starter and stay motivated.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to travel up to approximately 2.5-3.5 hours to locations within the assigned region, occurring up to one day per week.
- Ability to travel overnight approximately 1-3 nights per month.
- A degree in Environmental Science, Construction Management, Forestry, or a related field. A degree is preferred but not required.
- Energy utility experience.
This position is approximately 60% office-based and 40% field-based. Working from an office three days per week is required, with the option to work remotely from home two days per week. The preferred candidate will live within one hour of Richmond. Regional travel and occasional overnight travel are required as described above.
