Security Officer

Overview

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is looking for a Full-time Security Officer in Woodbridge, VA.

Work Shift:

Rotating. This role provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees at Sentara Hospitals and Free-standing Emergency Departments.

The Security Officer actively patrols campus and monitors activity in and around buildings and grounds and responds appropriately to routine and emergency situations. This role involves camera surveillance, maintaining department logs and records, using computer systems for documentation of daily activities, conducting security investigations, evaluating situations, and taking appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.

• Provide a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees at Sentara facilities.
• Actively patrol campus and monitor activity through various methods; respond to routine and emergency situations.
• Perform camera surveillance, maintain logs and records, and document daily activities.
• Conduct security investigations, evaluate situations, and take appropriate, timely actions.
• Support fitness and safety standards as part of Sentara’s Fit for Duty assessment.

• High School Degree (Required)

• Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) and Handle with Care certification required within 90 days of hire

• Experience working to maintain a safe and secure environment in a healthcare setting is preferred. The role involves active campus patrols and monitoring security-related activity.

The four-part Fit for Duty assessment includes a response walk, a stair climb, a drag to safety, and a lift. Sentara has implemented this assessment to ensure officers meet a minimum standard of fitness.
