Job Description
The Police National Computer (PNC) is a database maintained by the Home Office and accessed by all Police Forces and other organisations. It contains over 13 million nominal records, including approximately 12 million criminal records, 68 million vehicle records and 61 million driving‑licence records. The West Midlands Police PNC bureau is responsible for updating these records to ensure they are accurate and timely, enabling operational colleagues to make informed policing decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Input data from source documents or systems onto the PNC.
- Interrogate the HMCS case‑management system to obtain court listing information.
- Use Bichard 7 to capture case results on the PNC at point of adjournment and conclusion.
- Investigate cases commenced over 12 months ago to ensure results are added in a timely fashion.
- Complete peer‑review audits as required to maintain data quality.
- Carry out any other duties commensurate with the purpose and grading of the post that may be determined from time to time.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with internal and external enquiries courteously, reflecting a commitment to customer care.
- Experience in using the PNC, with updating experience preferred. Ability to use or be trained on a range of operational computer applications and communication systems (e.g. Bichard 7, LIBRA, Common Platform, Exhibit, Outlook).
- Vetted to MV Level 3 (or willingness to be vetted to that level).
- Familiarity with routine office systems, including filing, photocopying, registers, logs and statistical reporting.
- Knowledge or experience of court system operations in relation to case handling.
- Flexibility and willingness to support team objectives.
- Awareness of Force policies on equality, diversity and non‑compliance challenges.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and the ability to report shortfalls.
Post holders are required to undertake PNC training to full PNC Phoenix level. Failure to complete the Phoenix course successfully may result in redeployment; the posting is not protected.
Hours36.5 hours per week, with core operating hours of 08:00 – 18:00. Duties may vary in accordance with local operational needs.
VettingSuccessful applicants must pass Management Vetting and Counter‑Terrorism Clearance scrutiny, including a full background and financial disclosure.
MedicalAppointment to this role is subject to successful medical checks, which may include a drug test.
