Job objectives and responsibilities

• To manage the effective operation of all security and intelligence information systems to ensure a safe and secure environment throughout the Centre
• Provide advice, coaching and support to staff in order to maximise the efficient and effective running of the security function

• Intelligence Management & Threat Assessment
  • Security Information Reports (SIRs):
    Reviewing, analyzing, and actioning SIRs submitted by staff regarding safety, illicit items, or behavioural changes.
  • Counter-Corruption:
    Identifying and mitigating internal threats, such as staff collusion, trafficking of contraband, or breaches of professional standards.
  • Escape Risk Monitoring:
    Assessing and implementing custom protocols for residents flagged under the Managing Escape or Abscond Risk.
• Incident Prevention & Emergency Response
  • Contingency Planning:
    Designing, updating, and testing emergency procedures for high-risk events like riots, fires, hostage situations
  • Incident Escalation:
    Categorising and reporting critical incidents to the Home Office Compliance Team and senior estate directors in real-time.
  • Post-Incident Reviews:
    Leading formal de-briefs, reviewing CCTV or body-worn camera footage, and updating protocols.
• Physical & Technical Security Controls
  • Access Control:
    Managing the movement of staff, legal representatives, and external visitors. This includes authorizing and logging restricted IT hardware (like visitor laptops).
  • Contraband Interdiction:
    Overseeing searching regimes (room searches, body searches, and visitor screenings) to prevent drugs, weapons, and illicit mobile phones from entering.
  • Systems Maintenance:
    Monitoring the operational status of CCTV, biometric locks, perimeter fencing, and alarm networks.
• Safer Detention & Safeguarding Integration
  • Use of Force Oversight:
    Monitoring any physical interventions by Detainee Custody Officers (DCOs) to ensure they are strictly necessary, reasonable, and proportionate.
  • Vulnerability
    
    Collaboration:
    
    Working closely with the Safer Detention and healthcare teams. Security intelligence must actively feed into ACDT plans to support residents at risk of self-harm.
  • Night State Operations:
    Structuring and enforcing the specific night operating procedures to ensure safety when staffing levels are reduced.
• Compliance & External Liaison
  • Audit Readiness:
    Keeping the facility continuously compliant for inspections by the HM Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) and the on-site Home Office Compliance Team.
  • Police & Escort Coordination:
    Acting as the main point of contact for Police and escorting contractors when high-risk individuals are being transferred or deported.

• Experience of working within a custodial environment is required for this role
• Relevant experience of managing others: setting objectives, 1:2:1 reviews and performance management, leading and inspiring a team
• Confidence in working with individuals with behaviours that may challenge the services
• Able to assess and manage risk of individuals
• Competent in Basic-level skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and central IT systems (e.g. Data entry and ability to access information about residents)
• Inter-personal skills:
  Confident engaging with a wide and diverse range of people, with sensitivity, dignity and respect

• Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times
• Adhere to agreed outreach methods and risk assessment to ensure own personal safety dealing with service users
• Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment
• Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received.

• Ensure compliance with Mitie's information security procedures in all activities
• Proactively identify and report security risks to your manager
• Report actual and suspected security incidents.
