Job Summary

El Paso County seeks a passionate and skilled professional to join our 0‑3 Intake team. Key responsibilities include engaging families, developing treatment plans, conducting investigations, and holding clients accountable while maintaining a non‑biased, compassionate approach to the most vulnerable populations.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $27.404 – $29.808 hourly

Anticipated Hiring Rate: $28.720 hourly

Schedule & Location

Work schedule:

Up to 25 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. This is an in‑person position; remote work may be considered at departmental discretion.

Note:

The position may close without advanced notice if enough qualified applications are received.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Interview clients and develop appropriate treatment plans; initiate or participate in home studies; provide intensive casework services to families and children.
  • Investigate allegations of child abuse and assess imminent danger; make referrals to community resources.
  • Monitor and report client progress; provide service recommendations and referrals, ensuring services are delivered timely and placement is appropriate.
  • Address child safety issues in the home to mitigate concerns; ensure children in county custody receive necessary interventions.
  • Provide crisis management and coordinate support services for clients.
  • Act as liaison for DHS; consult with caseworkers and community professionals.
  • Provide casework and assessment services for teams within the Practice Unit.
  • Attend and testify in court hearings and mediations; complete documentation and monitor compliance with court orders.
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings and staffings.
  • Document all contacts and ensure paperwork is accurately completed and filed; update database.
  • Arrange and provide transportation for clients to appointments, therapy, school, court hearings, and pre‑placement visits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and county laws, outcome measures, rules, and regulations.
  • Support Practice, Support, and Services teams within the CYFS Division as needed.
  • Collect and report statistics and data on unit outcomes and performance.
  • Facilitate meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Supervision Exercised

This classification does not have supervisory authority but may provide guidance, oversight of work quality, training, or direction.

Supervision Received

Receives general supervision; performs duties by following established procedures with periodical performance review.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of casework practices, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork with co‑workers, clients, agencies, courts, and the public.
  • Efficient planning, scheduling, and organization.
  • Judgmental decision‑making; conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills.
  • Accurate and efficient paperwork, reports, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and technology.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with coursework related to child welfare social casework.
  • One year of professional, internship, or volunteer experience in a human services agency.
  • For those with a BSW or MSW, internship experience may substitute for required professional experience.
Licenses / Certificates
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
