Location: House Springs

Scope of Work

Family Coach is responsible for delivering high quality services in family engagement, health, and wellness through a program coaching model mandated by the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS). Service delivery is conducted in the home environment with families enrolled in the center‑based program model. This position works out of St Clair Elementary and Northwest Early Childhood Center. Mileage is reimbursed at the federal rate for miles driven beyond the home site.

Readiness/Inclusion
  • Engage enrolled families in discussions about educational program options for their child, plan for transition to kindergarten and/or other program enrollment and provide support during the transition process.
  • Participate in IEP and IFSP meetings as needed.
  • Participate in and plan FSP meetings.
  • Family Engagement and Community Partnerships
  • Initiate collaborative partnerships with families to establish mutual trust and respect.
  • Recruit, select, and enroll eligible families.
  • Coach parents to develop skills for positive, meaningful interactions with their child.
  • Meet with families twice a year for in‑person goal setting and assessments.
  • Provide education and coaching on child development, family development, health, safety, nutrition, and mental health/wellness.
  • Provide resources and referrals to support family goals.
  • Maintain professional relationships with local service providers, organizations, and agencies.
  • Offer supports for emotional well‑being, responsive caregiving, and family engagement.
  • Coordinate with Home Based Family Coaches and Family Committee to plan group connections and family events based on Head Start Policy.
  • Build partnerships with community partners and families.
  • Recruit throughout the community and host recruitment events.
  • Plan open house with the team supervisor.
  • Discuss subsidy options with families (if applicable).
  • Health and Safety
  • Collaborate with families to obtain continuous, accessible health care and appropriate health insurance coverage.
  • Facilitate access to comprehensive services, including school readiness, health, nutrition, food assistance, oral health care, mental health/wellness services, counseling, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and emergency shelter/housing.
  • Documentation
  • Monitor and document attendance concerns and follow up with families.
  • Complete and maintain timely and accurate data entry and documentation as required.
  • Ensure services are delivered in accordance with HSPPS, program policies, philosophies, and goals.
  • Professional Development
  • Participate in required professional development.
  • Act as an advisor for FDC as requested.
  • Support other staff as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of family records and program information.
  • Report regularly to the workstation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Education and Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in social sciences, human services, or related field with at least 9 social service credits; or two years of work experience in social services may substitute for the degree.
  • At least two years of documented work experience in family development, social work, human services, and/or psychology.
  • Experience working with low‑income families, child or family preferred.
  • FDC Credential provided by the program must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
  • Other Required Capabilities and Qualifications
  • Ability to problem‑solve, handle crisis, and work with families and children from diverse and low‑income backgrounds.
  • Ability to work primarily in homes with families residing in high‑risk communities.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with families, agency staff, and community members.
  • Physically able to stand for long periods and stoop, squat, run, and lift an estimated 50 lbs.
  • Must have a valid, active driver’s license and own transportation for travel in or out of the community.
  • Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
