OverviewTHIS POSITION WILL BE FILLED AS A PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF LOUISIANA STATE GOVERNMENT (State Employee).
How this position may be filled- DETAIL
:
The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. - PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT
:
Current permanent status classified State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment, if selected. - TEMPORARY JOB APPOINTMENT
:
This position may be filled by temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, and a permanent position becomes available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
- Social Service Counselor 1 SER: $19.51 per hour
- Social Service Counselor 2 SER: $20.87 per hour
- Social Service Counselor 3 SER: $25.42 per hour
- Social Service Counselor 4A SER: $27.20 per hour
There is “Premium Pay” for this position: a rate between $2.00 and $5.00 an hour for each hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.

Minimum Qualifications- Three years of social services experience; OR
- Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
- A bachelor's degree.
- Experience Substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full-time work experience. The maximum substitution is 120 semester hours (up to four years).
- Necessary Special Requirement: Positions providing addictive disorder counseling or prevention services require certification or eligibility for certification by the ADRA or successor.

To provide general social services work through direct services and/or general counseling.

Close from a Social Service Counselor 5, social worker, or other higher-level social services personnel.
