Position Overview

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services mission is to provide opportunities, services, and programs that promote a healthy, safe, and stable environment for residents. This role identifies the needs of Native American families and communities and undertakes activities to strengthen those families through cultural sensitivity.

Education
  • Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits).
Experience
  • Native American Outreach Worker 8:
    No specific type or amount required.
  • Native American Outreach Worker 9:
    One year of experience equivalent to a Native American Outreach Worker 8.
  • Native American Outreach Worker E10:
    Two years of experience equivalent to a Native American Outreach Worker, including one year of experience equivalent to the Native American Outreach Worker 9.
  • Native American Outreach Worker 8 - E10:
    Four years of full‑time experience providing outreach services to the Native American Community may substitute for the education requirement.
Selective Position Requirement (SPR)
  • Possess at least one year of experience working with the Native American population in areas such as housing, employment, health services, Native American rights, or public assistance.
Hybrid Work

This position is located at 199 Ferry Lane, St. Ignace, MI 49781 and serves Luce and Mackinac counties. Selected candidates approved to work hybrid (remote and office) must work within Michigan. Remote work requires:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
  • High‑speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
