- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time professional child welfare work (e.g., social/counseling, case management, volunteer coordination, juvenile classification). Call‑center or crisis‑hotline experience is preferred.
- OR Master’s degree in social work or a related field with one year of full‑time child welfare case work.
- Must be at least twenty‑one (21) years of age on the date of application;
- Be a citizen of the United States;
- Possess a valid driver’s license prior to and during employment;
- Have a good moral character, as determined by investigation;
- Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
- Have no conviction for a felony;
- Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointment authority;
- Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint‑based criminal history records check;
- Submit to and pass a pre‑employment screening test for use of illegal drugs;
- Ability to work nights, evenings, weekends and/or holidays as needed;
- Ability to work remotely or in a physical office location (requires a private, confidential workspace and hard‑wired internet for remote work);
- Ability to manually type 40 wpm or higher.
This classification demonstrates the ability to independently conduct investigatory intakes of alleged child abuse and neglect, assess safety and risk concerns, and supervise Intake Associates and Specialists.
Responsibilities- Provide direct performance management and supervision for DCS Intake Associates and Specialists, including corrective action and possible termination.
- Evaluate employee performance through Quality Assurance Reviews, Monthly Performance Briefings, Interims, and Annual reviews, and monitor leave, attendance, policy adherence, and professional conduct.
- Review and make screening decisions on initial intakes; process reconsidered referrals requiring screening modifications; screen Child Death and Preliminary Near‑Death referrals and notify appropriate parties with Hotline Director approval.
- Monitor the Child Abuse Hotline phone system to ensure timely call handling and oversee the DCS electronic intake database to ensure intakes are processed promptly.
- Perform NCIC criminal background checks via the Tennessee Information Enforcement System (TIES) for emergency child removals by DCS.
