The Customer Support and Services (CSS) Division of the Prince William County Department of Social Services seeks a Human Services Associate to support our Screening Team. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and possess strong critical thinking skills to make sound judgments using established criteria.

In this role, you will review applications for public assistance and, using established criteria, determine where they should be routed. This will require that you research applicants and register them in databases for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), Medicaid, and TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) applications. You will upload documents into management software, schedule appointments, prepare correspondence, and send letters to clients explaining their rights and responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements:High School diploma or G.E.D. and 1 year of related human services experience.
Preferences:- Experience screening and registering SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF applications in the Virginia Case Management System (VaCMS)
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
Social work, Human Services, Public Administration Support
- 1 year of customer service experience
- Strong computer skills, especially using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Possess strong skills in fundamental math
- Experience working with VaCMS
- All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
- Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services and DMV background checks.
- Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
This position is full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling available between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
This position is eligible for telework. However, staff may be required to report to the office on an intermittent basis (e.g. for meetings or trainings). Eligibility for remote work is subject to change as business needs warrant.
Hiring Hourly Rate Range$23.25 to $34.19
