Sheltered Housing Officer
Adecco is recruiting for a Sheltered Housing Officer on behalf of the London Borough of Richmond & Wandsworth. This role is ideal for candidates with experience working in sheltered housing environments, supporting older residents, and completing structured support plans.
Contract Details- Type:
Temporary - Pay: £21.03 per hour (PAYE) / £26.08 per hour (Umbrella)
- Location:
Cowick Road, Wandsworth, SW18 / Various sheltered schemes around the borough - Working Arrangements:
Office based, home working 1 day per month - Hours:
Full time, 36 hours per week (Monday to Friday) - Requirement:
Enhanced DBS required
The post holder will be responsible for managing a designated sheltered housing scheme, ensuring tenants' wellbeing, safety, and independence while maintaining high standards of building management and record keeping.
This is a frontline role requiring strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and confidence using IT systems to maintain accurate records. The successful candidate will work within the Supported Housing Service under the Richmond/Wandsworth Shared Staffing Arrangement.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the day‑to‑day operations, security, health and safety, and upkeep of a designated sheltered housing scheme.
- Conduct regular wellbeing checks with tenants and act on concerns including safeguarding, domestic abuse, and vulnerability indicators.
- Complete, review, and maintain Independence Plans and support plans for tenants.
- Identify support needs and make referrals to statutory and voluntary services, including health and social care agencies.
- Maintain accurate records using NPS, Microsoft SharePoint, and other relevant databases.
- Support with benefit claims, income maximisation, debt management and access to specialist services.
- Monitor voids, liaise with Allocations and Area teams, arrange viewings, and support tenancy sign‑ups and terminations.
- Conduct safety checks within tenants' homes and communal areas, ensuring repairs and maintenance issues are reported and resolved.
- Support Resident Associations, organise tenant meetings, and facilitate social and wellbeing activities.
- Handle cash for social fund accounts and process payments in line with council procedures.
- Assist with court cases, anti‑social behaviour issues, and tenancy enforcement where required.
- Work collaboratively with Senior Sheltered Housing Officers, Emergency Response teams, medical professionals, and external agencies.
- Understanding of the aims of sheltered housing.
- Knowledge of services for older people.
- Understanding the value of Resident Associations.
- Experience supporting older people in their homes.
- Ability to operate fire, speech and alarm systems.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to write concise reports and maintain accurate records.
- IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Commitment to equality and inclusion.
- Experience organising activities for older people.
- Ability to travel between sites.
- Ability to undertake professional training.
- Understanding of safeguarding.
