Project Officer, I Bike Schools Programme – East Lothian

£29,835 per annum (pro rata for part time)
Part time – 18.75 hours per week. Flexible working arrangements available.
Base – Selected schools in East Lothian with flexibility to work from home when not delivering in‑school sessions.
Contract – Fixed term until 31 March 2027 (possible extension).
The Role
As the Project Officer, you will support schools across East Lothian to increase active travel such as walking, wheeling and cycling. Your work will help pupils, staff and local communities travel in healthier and more sustainable ways.
What You’ll Be Doing- Deliver behaviour change and engagement projects that encourage active travel.
- Plan, organise and run educational sessions, practical activities and events that help people make positive changes in how they travel.
- Build effective working relationships with schools, community groups and local authorities to support these projects.
- Recruit, guide and support volunteers who help with the work of the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, ensuring they feel informed and confident.
- Carry out physical tasks such as lifting and moving bicycles, transporting boxes and equipment, and setting up activities within school environments. Reasonable adjustments will be considered if needed.
We’re looking for someone who has experience and understanding in the areas listed below. You don’t need to meet every requirement – if you feel you’d be a good fit, we encourage you to apply.
- At least 3 years of experience working with community groups (paid or voluntary).
- Understanding of Active Travel and the challenges faced by communities experiencing inequality or barriers.
- Experience leading group workshops and presenting information clearly, both online and in person.
- Knowledge of safeguarding principles and the ability to apply safe working practices that promote the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and adults at risk.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as travel between schools and transport of equipment is required.
