Staffordshire County Council seeks a Senior Social Worker for the Adult Social Care Transitions Team (14–25). The team provides specialist support for young people moving from childhood into adulthood across learning disability, neurodiversity, physical disability, and mental health contexts.
As a Senior Social Worker you will work closely with Children’s Services to ensure seamless transitions for young people turning 18 and will support the team’s development through supervision, duty management, court‑related work, and continuous improvement processes.
Main Responsibilities- Provide advice and guidance to practitioners to ensure high‑quality, person‑centred services are delivered.
- Quality‑assure assessments and offer constructive, strength‑based feedback to promote best practice.
- Deliver professional supervision to approximately eight staff members, supporting their development and reflective practice.
- Participate in the duty manager rota and oversee the team’s duty function.
- Hold a small, complex caseload, either as a keyworker or through joint working with team practitioners.
- Support and lead on court‑related work, preparing documentation and attending hearings as required.
- Facilitate quality circles to promote continuous improvement and uphold best practice across the team.
- Chair complex multi‑disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and best interests meetings, ensuring collaborative and informed decision‑making.
- Monitor and contribute to the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive service delivery and improvement.
- Be an experienced Social Worker with a strong background in managing complex cases.
- Demonstrate continued professional development through post‑qualification learning.
- Have a solid understanding of and experience with Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
- Possess relevant training and experience in safeguarding adults.
- Have experience supporting young people through transitions from childhood to adulthood.
- Be confident in providing supervision and support to practitioners.
The role is based in Staffordshire Place 1 (Stafford town centre). You will be expected to work from the office at least two days per week, with the option to work from home for the remainder of the time.
This role qualifies as an essential car user, reflecting the need for mobility across the county.
