Overview
School District No. 22 (Vernon) is located on the ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx nation, in the North Okanagan. The district serves over 9,200 diverse students across 19 schools with a team of about 600 teachers, 420 support staff, and 60 management staff.
Indigenous Outreach Worker (IOW) is a full-time, exempt position focused on supporting Indigenous students and engaging with Indigenous families and communities to promote re-engagement and connection with the school.
Responsibilities- Provide school-based and home-based services to support the re-engagement and attendance of Indigenous students, and to enhance student success.
- Engage with students, community groups, agencies, organizations, and service providers to support student attendance and outcomes.
- Address complex barriers contributing to disengagement and support the overall success of Indigenous students.
- Bachelor of Social Work or related bachelor’s degree.
- Knowledge of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit history, culture, values, and contemporary issues affecting Indigenous students, families, and communities.
- Eligibility for registration with the British Columbia Association of Social Workers (BCASW) or in a related professional association is an asset.
- Salary range: $76,233 to $95,291 depending on experience and qualifications.
