Role Overview

The New Arrivals Team is looking for a Social Worker to join our vibrant and diverse team. This is an exciting opportunity to join Manchester’s specialist team that looks after Unaccompanied Asylum‑Seeking Children (UASC). You will work with UASC across the city to ensure the very best outcomes, supporting all aspects of their care including concerns around trafficking and immigration. You will support children and young people from the point of arrival right up until adulthood.

We’re looking for child‑focused, passionate individuals with a keen interest in working with UASC. Ideally you have experience working with migrant families. In this role, you will support the key social workers to ensure plans are progressive for children and young people as they transition to adulthood, ensuring they have every opportunity to reach their full potential and achieve stability.

We nurture strong supportive teams that provide opportunities to work in a solution‑focused and trauma‑informed way, receive regular and ongoing training, and offer a commitment to personal and professional development. We embrace a culture of valuing and supporting our staff and looking after one another, understanding the challenges within the social work role.

Desired Candidate
  • You have a passion for developing strong relationships with children, carers and families, and you use your relationship skills to work with multi‑agency partners to progress children’s plans.
  • You are a team player, a good communicator with strong organisational skills, remain calm under pressure, and are a natural problem solver.
  • You enjoy thinking outside the box to support children to achieve their potential.
  • You seek to continue your development and take up training and development opportunities available through working with Manchester.
Benefits
  • Retention Payment – £2,000 pro rata (£1,000 after one year with the Council and a further £1,000 after two years, subject to terms and conditions).
