About the role

At Hillingdon, we are proud of our commitment to Putting Our Residents First. We are looking for two highly motivated Resettlement Support Officers to join our fast-paced Resettlement Team, initially for six months with the possibility of extension for up to one year, subject to funding.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of displaced individuals and families. While previous experience in a resettlement environment would be beneficial, it is not essential. Most important is a positive attitude and the ability to work well within a team to support vulnerable families and individuals.

As a Resettlement Support Officer, you will deliver high-quality administrative and operational support across all of our current resettlement schemes, including:

  • Afghan Resettlement Programmes
  • Homes for Ukraine
  • Asylum Dispersal
  • Newly arrived British Citizens
  • Other Home Office-led humanitarian initiatives

You will work closely with the Resettlement Support Team Leader and the wider team to ensure individuals and families are supported to settle successfully in Hillingdon.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support a varied caseload of resettlement cases, ensuring arrivals into Hillingdon have a smooth and positive experience.
  • Act as the first point of contact for residents, partner agencies, and internal departments, providing empathetic and culturally sensitive support.
  • Enable new arrivals to access housing, benefits, education, healthcare, and community integration opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate case records, reports, and data returns to meet Government and council requirements.
  • Assist colleagues at Welcome Centres and other off‑site locations during new arrivals.
  • Escalate safeguarding concerns or complex issues to the Team Leader.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and adapt to changes in Home Office guidance or council policy.
About You
  • Highly motivated and team‑oriented.
  • Passionate about supporting vulnerable families and individuals.
  • Organised and detail‑focused, with good administrative and record‑keeping skills.
  • Strong communicators, with the ability to engage empathetically with people from diverse backgrounds. Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
What We Offer
  • A chance to directly support individuals and families to rebuild their lives.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • Access to a wide range of employee benefits.
  • Flexible Working Hours – We recognise the importance of flexibility in managing your work and personal life.
  • 36 Hour Week – Enjoy a standard 36‑hour workweek for all full time staff.
  • Generous Holiday Entitlement – increasing with length of service (for non‑casual roles).
  • Hillingdon Sports & Leisure – Stay active and healthy with discounts at council owned leisure centres and swimming pools across the borough.
  • Salary Sacrifice Schemes – option to join schemes for cycle purchase, electric vehicle leasing and additional voluntary pension contributions (subject to scheme rules).
  • Cycle to Work – Eco‑friendly commuting with our cycle purchase scheme. We also provide bicycle parking, lockers, and showers at the Civic Centre.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme – access to Local Government Pension Scheme and membership to the Credit Union.
  • Vivup Benefits – Access a variety of offers and discounts through our Vivup Benefits.
  • Mental Health Support and Counselling Services – Our mental health first aiders are trained to identify, understand, and help employees experiencing mental health issues. Access free 24‑hour confidential advice and counselling as well as a legal advice service for you and your immediate family.
  • Travel Support – Make your daily commute easier with our season ticket loans and free car parking.
  • Trade Union Membership – The Council recognises UNISON, Unite, AEP and GMB and supports employees’ freedom of choice in relation to trade union membership.
