Overview

We currently have a number of exciting opportunities for Social Workers in our Mental Health Team. We are looking to appoint Social Workers who are enthusiastic and passionate about changing the lives of people with care and support needs, and carers, through the promotion of wellbeing and choice, making a real difference and enabling them to increase their independence and have fulfilling lives, free from harm and abuse.

We welcome applications from newly qualified Social Workers as well as experienced Social Workers looking for a change in career or wishing to develop their skills and experience. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and abilities across a broad range of social work activity, such as assessment and care planning and safeguarding.

As part of an experienced team, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering our service, providing a specialist social work service to Solihull residents who require support due to having a mental health illness. We work closely with our mental health colleagues and are based in an NHS building (The Maple Leaf Centre), from which we run our own duty service.

It is a requirement that Social Workers in the Mental Health team train to be an AMHP (Approved Mental Health Practitioner) if you do not already hold this qualification.

About Us

You would be joining us in Solihull at an exciting time as we change the way in which we deliver our services, and we work in a more agile way. As a Social Worker in Solihull, you will benefit from manageable caseloads and an inclusive and supportive team culture with great scope for professional development.

Within both teams, we also offer comprehensive training with opportunities to study to be a Best Interest Assessor or Practice Educator which provides a positive base for supervision skills. We also offer a 12-month Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) for newly qualified social workers.

Social Work England registration fees are also paid for qualified Social Workers.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A professional Social Work qualification and be Social Work England registered or be in the final academic year of a professional Social Work qualification with pending Social Work England registration.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and relevant legislation.
  • Experience of delivering person-centred and strengths-based working including assessments and reviews.
  • Detailed knowledge of the care legislation including the continuing health care framework.
  • Experience of assessment, the development and planning of care and of positive risk management.
  • Effective communication skills and experience of collaborative working to build effective working relationships.
  • Above all, a passion for supporting adults with disabilities to live fulfilling lives and maximise their opportunities for independence.
Our Offer to You

You will be part of a team where you will be really valued, with the opportunity to shape and improve the services we deliver to our diverse community. We have close partnerships across agencies in the borough and are a small and friendly local authority with good relationships across adult care and support.

We understand that our employees have commitments and interests outside work and encourage good work-life balance by offering a flexible and agile working environment. This is further supplemented by generous annual leave entitlements with the opportunity to purchase up to 10 days additional leave per year, staff discounts, family and carer friendly policies and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Working on a hybrid basis; these roles will include a combination of office and home working with face-to-face visits and assessments being an essential element of the role, as well as taking part in our office-based duty service.
