Luton Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Disability Family Intervention Worker to join our Short Breaks team.
In this rewarding role, you will provide a wide range of support to disabled children, young people and their families. You will undertake direct work with children & young people within the short breaks unit building positive relationships that promotes wellbeing, independence and resilience. You will support personal & health care needs of individuals and be able to support young people with social & communication difficulties & complex behaviours.
Working closely with partner agencies, commissioned services and multi‑agency professionals, you will contribute to achieving positive outcomes for children, young people and their families. You will be responsible for assessing and analysing needs in partnership with families, developing clear plans and targets, and preparing concise reports that support effective decision‑making and safeguarding.
The successful candidate will be able to make needs‑led and safe decisions regarding the support and protection of children and young people. You will implement, monitor and review care programmes, undertake carers’ assessments and mental capacity assessments, and ensure that all casework is accurately recorded using IT systems in a timely manner.

About you- Experience of working with children, young people with a range of disabilities and their families.
- Experience in a care or similar setting
- Knowledge of safeguarding, child development and family support practices.
- Strong assessment, planning and report‑writing skills.
- The ability to analyse information and make informed, needs‑led decisions.
- Experience of implementing and reviewing support or care programmes.
- Knowledge of carers’ assessments and mental capacity assessments.
- Excellent communication and partnership‑working skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
- Confidence in using IT systems to maintain accurate records.
